About The Storyteller

Brought up in Cumbria, I came to the North East of England many years ago to train at Newcastle University Medical School. Now an active GP and a Primary Teacher (having taught from nursery to Year 6, both as a classroom-based and floating teacher) I have taught the full breadth of curriculum, including Primary French. I was literacy co-ordinator for the last 4 years (including OFSted experience) and my teaching experience has been within a school with learning and physical resource bases.

I have a life long interest in mental health and emotional well being. I am currently a General Practitioner, Clinical Lead for Mental Health and also Children’s Services (including experience as named GP for child protection) with a Primary Care Trust. I am undertaking a 3 year course as Practitioner with a Special Interest in Mental Health based at Staffordshire University. In the past I chose to attend 3 years of academic and skill based diploma in psychotherapy training weekends, alongside those training to qualify with BCP and UKCP registration, to enhance development of clinical medical practice.

People see my careers as an unusual combination – I see a single thread of communication, importance of our uniqueness, warmth and support of our shared experience, the power of human interaction to create and understand our own unique story and continue to adapt and develop it. Individuality is to be respected, celebrated, and shared!
